Taipei, Taiwan, 4th February 2002, - VIA Technologies, Inc. a leading innovator and developer of core logic chipsets, microprocessors, and multimedia, networking and communications chips, today announced that NEXCOM, the industry's leading innovator of powerful yet compact PC appliances and servers, has introduced a new range of ultra dense HiServer™ 309, 318 and 320 Ultra High Density Blade Servers based on the VIA C3™ processor.

The NEXCOM HiServer represents a breakthrough in design concept by condensing between 1 and 20 independent sub-systems into a 3U chassis with hot-swappable CPU cards and remote intelligent KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) control. This ultra dense design maximizes scalability by allowing up to 280 servers in 42U rack, producing more than 316GHz aggregate computing performance and more than 588Gbit/s aggregate network throughput while reducing the power consumption to less than 50W per Server.

"We are leading the market towards more compact and manageable servers while maintaining the required level of performance and ease of use that the market demands," remarked Steven Wu, Director of Product Marketing, NEXCOM. "The cool running VIA C3™ processor has helped to achieve this level of density while keeping costs at an affordable level."

Using state of-the-art technology, this compact design reduces environmental stress through its small footprint, reduced cabling/wiring management effort, remote manageability and low power consumption while simplifying thermal management with the cool running VIA C3 processor. The performance advantages of this design are further enhanced through the option of the VIA Apollo PRO266 DDR chipset with selected models of server blades.

"NEXCOM have proven themselves to be leaders in developing innovative, highly integrated and compact systems, and their products capitalize on the thermal advantages of the VIA C3 processor through their space saving and environmentally friendly designs," commented Richard Brown, Director of International Marketing at VIA Technologies, Inc. "The growing interest in the VIA C3 processor as the market shifts towards innovative, quiet and compact systems is proof that VIA has the right vision and the right product for the market of the future."

About NEXCOM HiServer
Available in three different models, the NEXCOM HiServer offers high performance, low power consumption, lower total cost of ownership, ease of use, high levels of scalability and upgrade ability and remote hot swappable management on a reliable compact platform. Each 3u chassis holds up to 20 server blades allowing up to 280 servers in a 42 u rack producing up to 316GHz aggregate computing performance and up to 588Gbit/s aggregate network throughput with a power consumption of less than 50Wper server. Each field replaceable and hot swappable server blade is managed remotely, further enhancing the environmentally friendly and lower total cost of ownership of this state of-the-art server.
